QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open

Learn how to fix issues when you can't open QuickBooks.

There are many reasons why QuickBooks might not open correctly.

Tip: If you select your QuickBooks Desktop icon multiple times, sometimes, it won't open.  Allow QuickBooks enough time to load before you continue.

If QuickBooks won't respond or you get an error that says it stopped working, follow these steps.

Solution 1: Run Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tools Hub

Step 1: Download and install the QuickBooks Tools Hub

The QuickBooks Tool Hub helps fix common errors. You'll need to close QuickBooks to use the tool hub. For the best experience, we recommend you use Tool Hub on Windows 10, 64-bit.

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.5.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop). Note: If you've installed Tool Hub before, you can find out which version you have. Select the Home tab. The version will be on the bottom.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

ToolHubIcon_QBDT_US_Ext_051320.jpg

Note: If you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for QuickBooks Tool Hub and select the program.

ToolHubSearch_QBDS_US_Ext_051320.jpg

Step 2: From the Tools Hub, run the Quick Fix my Program

The Quick Fix will shut down any open background processes QuickBooks uses. It'll run a quick repair on your program.

  1. In the QuickBooks Tools Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

Solution 2: Suppress the QuickBooks Desktop application

There might be damage to your company file. You'll want to figure out if the issue is with QuickBooks or your data file. QuickBooks might try to open your previous company.

  1. Press and hold the Ctrl key, then double-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon.
Important: Don't release the Ctrl key until you see the "No Company Open" window unless QuickBooks freezes or gives you an error.
  2. Select a company file, then choose Open.

Solution 3: Run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool from the Tools Hub

  1. Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. In the tools hub, select Installation Issues.
  3. Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. Let the tool run. It can take up to 20 minutes.
  4. When the tool finishes, restart your computer.
  5. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

Solution 4: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop Installation

Run a repair to replace all damaged installation files.

Solution 5: Run the Clean Install tool from the Tools Hub

The Clean Install tool auto renames your old install folders for you. This allows QuickBooks to add new install files when you reinstall.  It won't remove your company files.

Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.

How to run Windows 10 on a Mac using Parallels Desktop

    parallel-desktops-for-mac.jpg

Running Windows on a Mac computer has traditionally been freely doable through the aid of Boot Camp, a built-in utility that creates a separate partition on your Mac so you can juggle between macOS and Windows (or Linux) on the same machine. The future ARM-based Macs recently announced by Apple won't be able to support Windows 10 through a Boot Camp scenario. If you plan to run Windows on one of these ARM Macs or any other Mac, Parallels Desktop is an alternative worth considering.

SEE: Windows 10 security: A guide for business leaders (TechRepublic Premium)

First, the Boot Camp restriction will apply only to ARM-based Macs, irrespective of OS version. If you're running the latest flavor of macOS, namely Big Sur, on an Intel-based Mac, Boot Camp is still available and usable as always. Second, the great part about Boot Camp is that it's not only built into macOS, but it's free. A third-party program such as Parallels Desktop will cost you a few bucks.

The current Parallels Desktop 16 for Mac comes in three editions: Home & Student for $79.99, Pro for $99.99 per year, and Business for $99.99 per year. The standard Home & Student edition offers all the basic features; the Pro and Business versions kick in advanced features suitable for developers and business environments. To try out Parallels Desktop, you can download and run a free 14-day trial.

Parallels Desktop for Mac doesn't include Windows, but you have a few options. You can buy a copy of Windows 10 through the Parallels Desktop interface. You can always purchase it from Microsoft or another retailer. If you already have a license for Windows 10, you can install it directly from a disc, ISO file, or other supported format.

To get started, download and install your preferred version of Parallels Desktop from its website. During the setup process, you'll need to grant Parallels Desktop certain permissions to fully operator. If you don't already have a separate installation for Windows 10, you'll have to download and install it. Click the button to Install Windows (Figure A).

    Figure A

    figure-a.jpg

Windows then goes through its own familiar setup process. After the process concludes, the screen indicates that the installation is complete. Click anywhere on the virtual machine window to continue (Figure B).

    Figure B

    figure-b.jpg

You'll then need to create an account with Parallels or sign in with your existing account if you have one. You can now start tweaking and using Windows. One place to begin is to connect any external devices, such as USB or Bluetooth devices. Click the Devices menu and select the type of device you want to set up. In most cases, you can opt to share the device with both macOS and Windows, so it's automatically available no matter which OS you load (Figure C).

    Figure C

    figure-c.jpg

Next, you can change the view and size of your Windows 10 VM. Click the View menu. Choose Full Screen to fill the entire screen with your Windows 10 environment. To revert back, right-click the Windows 10 icon in the Mac's Dock, move to View, and then select Exit Full Screen (Figure D).

    Figure D

    figure-d.jpg

You can choose from other views as well. Coherence view lets you run Windows and Mac apps without having to move between the two environments. Select Enter Coherence from the View menu. Your Mac apps and Dock are fully available. Right-click on the Parallels Desktop icon on the menu bar at the top, and your Windows 10 Start menu pops up with access to your Windows apps (Figure E).

    Figure E

    figure-e.jpg

Here's one more view. Exit Coherence mode if you haven't already done so, click the View menu, and select Enter Picture In Picture. Your Windows VM shrinks to a small, resizable thumbnail window that you can tuck away until you need it (Figure F).

    Figure F

    figure-f.jpg

Next, you can pause, stop, and resume your Windows 10 VM. Click the Actions menu and choose the command you wish to run (Figure G).

    Figure G

    figure-g.jpg

You can also close your Windows 10 VM the usual way--click the Start button and then the Power button and then select Shut Down. To restart Windows 10, just click the Parallels Windows 10 icon on the desktop or the Dock.

Finally, you can install Parallels Toolbox, either for the Mac or for Windows. Parallels Toolbox offers an array of utilities that you can use to better control and work with your operating system (Figure H). To set this up, click the Windows 10 menu and select the option to Install Parallels Toolbox For Windows. From here, you can install either the Windows or Mac version.

Parallels Desktop 17.1 brings full Windows 11 support to macOS Monterey

The latest version of virtualization tool Parallels Desktop now fully supports macOS Monterey, and significantly will mean Macs can run Windows 11.

Parallels Desktop previously became an Apple Silicon native app with version 17, but there remained issues over running Windows 11 on it. Microsoft's OS had certain minimum specifications, and key amongst those was the requirement for a Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

Specifically, Microsoft announced that it requires a TPM 2.0, and not all Macs do. However, Parallels says that it has created a virtual Trusted Platform Module (vTPM) to address the issue.

"Knowing that Parallels Desktop plays a critical role in enabling users to run the latest versions of Windows on their favorite Mac device today," said Parallels Vice President for Engineering, Elena Koryakina, "we've developed a simple solution to help all users upgrade to Windows 11 with the enablement of vTPMs by default on all Mac devices."

"The latest version of Parallels Desktop also builds on our customers' top requests," she continued, "with new gaming and 3D integrations to further enhance the user experience."

Parallels has previously used vTPMs, but only on specific, professional editions of the Desktop software. Now this new version will be included in the Standard, Pro and Business versions.

A Parallels technical blog describes how Desktop has implemented vTPMs, and how users can benefit from it.

Parallels Desktop 17 is a subscription app, starting at $80 per year for the Standard Edition. The Pro and Business Editions are available for $99.99 per year. Those who purchased a perpetual license for a previous version of Parallels Desktop can upgrade to Parallels Desktop 17 for $49.99.

This software activation key sale post is brought to you by CDKeylord.com.

The discounts keep coming at CDKeylord.com. Through the end of November, Cult of Mac readers can take 35% off the regular price of a Genuine Lifetime Windows 10 Pro key and numerous other software product-activation keys. And you can also get a free upgrade to Windows 11! Just enter the discount code CULT at checkout. See all the super discounts in the links below.

CDKeylord.com 11.11 Sale: Windows 10 Pro OEM keys and more

To get the best possible prices, you must use 35% super-discount code CULT at CDKeylord.com when purchasing  any Microsoft Windows and Office keys (reverts to 30% off after November 30):

Get 35% off Microsoft Windows and Office software activation keys at CDKeylord.com with code CULT.

What’s the point of updating Microsoft software?

Why should you bother to update your Microsoft software? First of all, with prices like CDKeylord.com offers, you almost can’t afford not to. But, of course, there are other legit reasons to keep your computer’s critical software current.

Microsoft products, like most software, generally get more powerful and more secure over time. When you get the latest versions of Microsoft’s operating systems and productivity software, you know you will gain the latest, greatest features. You almost always can do more with new versions than you can with old ones. And who doesn’t enjoy tapping the most up-to-date functionality?

When CDKeylord.com confirms your order, you receive the software activation key via email.

    Better security with updated software

Perhaps even more important than the latest features is improved security. Newer versions of software almost always prove more secure. They often include patches and upgrades that fix previous versions’ vulnerabilities. And that helps protect you from malicious hackers and other creeps.

Also, when you put off updating software, you can run into seriously annoying problems down the road. Eventually, Microsoft will stop supporting old versions of its software. If you upgrade to newer versions, you won’t need to worry about a lack of access to tech support if and when a problem arises. Most likely, you’ll prefer that to being forced to upgrade after running into glitches.

Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro cheap: Activating your new Microsoft product after you purchase a CDKeylord software activation key is easy.

Your software purchase: The fine print

Note that CDKeylord’s licenses are not transferable. The software keys are valid for a single activation on a single computer (except where two PCs are noted). If you begin to use another computer in less than a year, you must buy another license to keep using the software.

The restrictions above should not be a deal-breaker, though, considering the deep discounts you can currently get off CDKeylord’s already low prices.

To get your 35% off discount, shop at CDKeylord.com and enter the final draft crack mac - Activators Patch code CULT at checkout.

Using Articulate Software on a Mac with Parallels Desktop

Here are a few important tips and best practices for using Articulate software on a Mac with Parallels.

    Disable the Shared Profile

Disable the shared profile in Parallels, so all the default Windows folders reside in the Windows environment, not the native Mac environment. For poweriso download information on this topic, see this Parallels article.

After disabling the shared profile, uninstall and reinstall your Articulate software. (This step is only necessary if shared profiles were previously enabled.)

Work Exclusively in the Windows Environment

Save and publish Articulate projects in the Windows environment, not the Mac. For example: C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\

Don't work from a network drive or an external USB drive. Doing so can result in file corruption or loss of resources due to latency.

Audio, video, and image resources must be located in the Windows environment, not the Mac. Copy and paste files you need for Articulate projects to the Windows environment prior to inserting them into your content.

When working with Microsoft Office (e.g., when importing PowerPoint slides into Advanced installer azure - Crack Key For U, Office apps must Luminar 4.4.3 Crack + Activation Code Free Download 2021 installed in your Windows environment.

Set Links to Always Open in Windows

In Parallels, set links to always open in Windows (the default setting). Articulate 360 requires access to a browser in the virtual environment for authentication.

    Disable Retina Resolution for Windows

If you're using a Mac with a Retina display, you may find that user interface elements in Articulate apps are small and difficult to read. To correct it, disable Retina resolution for your Windows virtual machine.

    1. Start Parallels Desktop, but don't start your Windows virtual machine.
    2. Go to Configuration > Hardware > Graphics.
    3. Set your Resolution to Scaled.
    4. Close the menu and start your virtual machine.

Want to see a demonstration? Watch the last video tutorial in this article.

    Turn Coherence Mode Off

We don't recommend using Coherence mode. It can cause graphical anomalies or even make Windows apps freeze up. See this Parallels article for instructions.
